 RAY JORDAN WINE GUIDE 2016

Forest Hill Vineyard Block 1 Riesling 2014 ($38)

This  is a cracking good riesling – as good as any released under this label. Opens with a talcy bath salts and spicy lemon blossom characters on the nose. The palate is so intense and loaded with fruit that is held with a remarkable precision and control. There is tension and energy in here that releases through to a long finish. Watch this change over the years.

Score: 95/100     Cellar: 15 years

Forest Hill Vineyard Block 9 Shiraz 2013 ($60)

There is such a distinctive peppery spiciness on the nose here. It’s a bit of a departure from previous shiraz with a palate that is slightly less robust. But there’s plenty of deep fruit concentration. Gravelly loamy characters on the palate seem to be drawn directly fro he vineyard. This is a wine that shows place and regionality.

Score: 94/100     Cellar: 10 years

Forest Hill Vineyard Block 5 Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 ($60)

Very pure expression of cabernet here. Blackcurrant aromas with a little fruit cakey character. The palate is generous and lavish with plush tannins and neat oak supporting the fruit. Like the Block 9 shiraz this too is less robust but still packs plenty to its sustained finish. Rich and textured.

Score: 94/100     Cellar: 10 years

Beautiful example of a Great Southern Riesling. Aromas of intense spices with a leafy citrus and floral character.
