RAY JORDAN WINE GUIDE 2017

Gilberts riesling 2016 ($24)

Attractive classically defined Great Southern Riesling with all those lovely spicy characters and light citrus feel. Crisp and clean with a long intensity sustained by a fine acid. Love the floral notes on the nose and the vibrancy of the palate. Nice wine.

Score: 91/100     Cellar: 7 years

Gilberts Reserve  shiraz 2012 ($30)

Gilberts produce some of the best shiraz in the region – have done for years. This one captures the subtlety of shiraz from Mount Barker. Soft and supple with spicy savoury characters working through the deep deliciously dark fruit. Spicy dark chocolate flavours add another dimension.

Score: 89/100     Cellar: 9 years

 RAY JORDAN WINE GUIDE 2016

Gilberts Hand Picked chardonnay 2013 ($25)

Poised and balanced light to medium-bodied chardonnay from this excellent small producer. A mix of melon and creamy nutty aromas greet from the outset. The palate is finely balanced with a neat touch of melon and citrus providing a keen edge to the richer, though still subtle, stone fruit characters. Nice wine drinking well for the next few years.

SCORE 90/100 CELLAR 3 years

Gilberts Reserve shiraz 2011 ($30)

This little producer just north of Mount Barker has always produced first-class shiraz fruit. This one has been brilliantly handled to create a super wine that captures all the best of this variety from the Great Southern region. Rich spicy plum fruit with masses of dark chocolate and lightly toasty oak. Slips beautifully across the palate with a very long finish. A real crowd pleaser.

SCORE 94/100 CELLAR 8 years
