Light bodied crisp young white just oozing drinkability. Light tropical fruits with a dash of citrus tang livens up an eminently drinkable young wine. Zingy acidity gives it a crunchy mouth feel.
This is a mighty good attempt at bringing another dimension to the standard chenin blanc. Gets natural fermentation and nine months on lees to bring in texture and complexity. Has a creamy Vouvray character and with that natural chenin acidity makes for a might good wine. A slightly more restrained version to the previous year.
An extra year in bottle has taken this excellent wine to another zone. Continues to excellent recent form of chardonnays from this vineyard. All wild ferments with further time on lees to build complexity. IT works well but doesn’t compromise the fine angular lines of what is a modern expression of the variety with plenty of Margaret River power. So poised and lively. Impressive.
The 85/15 mix of dominant shiraz really strikes the right balance. Fleshy shiraz with a neat savoury earthiness of the tempranillo tucked in there. A small amount of new oak just adds a lift on the palate with is medium weight and juicy. Perfect drinking with light red meats or pasta.
A classy cabernet here. Combines a powerful and structure presence with plenty of lush plump blackcurrant fruit. The oak or which half is new French is perfectly worked into the fruit. Firmish tannins. Loads of dark chocolate and slightly plummy Christmas cake characters.

Aravina Estate Block 4 Chenin Blanc 2014 ($28)
Best of the West 2016 – chenin blanc
Not your usual chenin blanc here. This one has had extended lees contact and time in older French oak creating texture, mouthfeel and new layers of flavour complexity. The aromas are an enticing mix of stone fruit and bright lemon and pear, while the palate delivers a creamy, slightly nutty flavour.
Most appealing impressive expression of the variety.

Aravina Estate semillon 2014 ($28)
A rather tight and restrained young semillon that delivers its goodies with a high degree of subtlety. The 40 per cent barrel fermentation has contributed to this and provided an extra dimension of depth and palate concentration. Delivers with a lemon essence and subtle grassiness. A little lemon zest and lime brings further life.
An excellent wine with some medium-term cellaring potential.

Aravina Estate cabernet sauvignon 2012 ($45)
A very good cabernet from this very good year. Shows a lovely savoury chocolaty character on the nose with some subtle black olive characters. The palate is firm
with a tight core of fine grained oak and well-managed tannins. Slightly chalky tannins provide a dry balance to the sweet underlying fruit.
