RAY JORDAN WINE GUIDE 2017

Brookland Valley Verse 1 semillon sauvignon blanc 2015 ($15)

The grassy dominance of the semillon is evident with this delightfully vibrant and crunchy blended white. The deeper tones of the savvy take over on the palate where the mix of tropical fruits with passionfruit and a splash of lemon take over. Clean extended finish.

Score: 89/100    Cellar: 3 years

Brookland Valley Verse 1 chardonnay 2015 ($15)

An appealing commercial style of chardonnay offering a little more than you expect at this price point. Creamy stone fruit and lightly roasted nuts with a trace of that typical Margaret River grapefruit and mealy character. Nice lines through the middle palate to a long finish. Well-crafted young wine for the short term.

Score: 90/100    Cellar: 3 years

Brookland Valley Estate chardonnay 2014 ($35)

A very modern expression of chardonnay but one with so much power and intensity. IT’s an elegant wine with beautiful touches of white peach, nectarine and pink grapefruit. The palate is finely crafted and focused with so much driving intensity. Outstanding wine.

Score: 94/100    Cellar: 5 years

Brookland Valley Reserve chardonnay 8 years

Oh, this is so wonderfully good. Takes the standard Estate version to another level of exquisite refinement and subtle understate. Yet there is so much happening in the palate which is finely crafted and very long. Fine oak integration and a minerally acidity extended the palate to a very long almost pretty finish.

Score: 96/100    Cellar: 8 years

Brookland Valley Estate cabernet merlot 2013 ($35)

A stylish and most elegant cabernet merlot blend. Blackcurrant and minerally graphite aromas with a leafy tobacco overlay. The palate is so silky and fine integrated with powdery tannins and fine grained oak effortlessly holding the fruit intensity to a driving long finish. Superb in every way.

Score: 95/100    Cellar: 10 years

Brookland Valley Reserve cabernet sauvignon 2012 ($75)

This is the top of the wazzer cabernet from Brookland Valley. This is a cracking good wine from this early season. It’s robust but still be a high degree of refinement and poise. Grainy tannins and plenty of oak work into the robust fruit. Has a leafy finish with a trace of tannin astringency keeping it on track. A wine with extended cellaring in mind.

Score: 96/100    Cellar: 15 years
