Bella Ridge Estate

best drinking summer wine

Bella Ridge Chenin Blanc 2011 ($28.50)

Here is compelling evidence why this variety is often drunk too early. Gets a little bit of oak in the making and has been held back before release. The result is a rather wonderful expression of the variety. Has an exotic mix of tropical fruits laced with minerals and a little toasty nuttiness. Rich and flavoursome but still with a piercing fine acidity.

Bella Ridge Bella Rose 2012 ($26)

This is anything but a stock standard rose. It’s made from tempranillo, a variety that is well suited to the style. It gets some barrel fermentation. It all stacks up so beautifully with a spicy and slightly gingery character. Great texture and rich mouth feel with tremendous length on the palate.

Bella Ridge Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2010 ($30)

A really dark, brooding and ripe example of this style. The extra time in bottle has allowed a slightly leathery library book-like character to develop on the nose. There’s deep ripe blackcurrant and stewed plum characters on the palate with spicy dark chocolate richness. Warm palate feel.

Bella Ridge chenin blanc 2010
Thoroughly gorgeous example of the ageing potential of chenin blanc from the Swan. It’s a different take on this variety in the Swan Valley with clever use of oak adding considerably to texture. Retains its tropical melon fruit but then there’s a nice creamy nuttiness that elevates this into the exotic zone. Love the style. There’s interest with every slurp.

Terrific stuff.

Bella Ridge verdelho 2005
Best of the West 2016 – verdelho
No, don’t adjust your glasses, this is a current release verdelho and it’s 10 years old. It shows how well these varieties age when well handled and from good vineyards. Highly textural with a creak stone fruit richness on the palate but still so vibrant and lively
through to its very long finish.

Super wine.

Bella Ridge tempranillo 2010
Take in the heady aromas on the nose and you are immediately captivated by the complexity and intrigue of the perfumes. Loads of spicy cherry and a trace of violet and red raspberry. On the palate the spiciness is immediately evident. The dry dusty tannins and fine grained oak sit together quite beautifully.

Lovely wine.
