Ashbrook Estate Reserve cabernet sauvignon 2012 ($65)

Another significant step forward for Ashbrook. This excellent wine has small amounts of merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot. Hardly surprising it’s a very complete wine. The aromas show a distinct leafy perfumed lift with that cab franc playing a hand. The palate is certainly firm but there is sweet ripe fruit in there harnessed with quality French oak. Retains a smooth silkiness and it is a wine that will certainly benefit from cellaring.

Ashbrook Estate semillon 2016 ($25)

Over the years, Ashbrook has consistently produced a most drinkable semillon and this is another. Loads of deep tropical fruit held with typical semillon restraint. A trace of light herbaceousness and a little varietal citrus hangs in there to focus and define the finish. Really clean and flavoursome at the same time in the mouth. A lovely example of a style we really should drink more of.

Ashbrook Estate Reserve chardonnay 2013 ($65)

A new wine for Ashbrook that marks a significant step up in approach and outcome. This is a chardonnay that captures the essential fruit quality that is grown on this estate. It’s been well handled in the winery to bring a layered complexity and refinement. Eight months on lees has introduced both texture and a nutty creaminess which complements the steely thread. Long and flavoursome.
