Batista Estate

Batista Estate

This outstanding little producer makes only pinot noir from unirrigated, biologically-grown vines. Bob Peruch spends a lot of time in the vineyard which is the key to the wines. The wines are then made traditionally. The fruit is basket pressed and then spends about 14 months in French oak. There is the standard pinot and the reserve.

Batista Estate pinot noir 2011 ($50)

One of the best pinot noir producers in WA. This is another first-rate wine. The palate displays so much deep concentration, yet delivered with the finesse of the variety to perfection. Soft and almost mellow yet within there is power, structure and control, which carries the wine to a very long finish. Those chalky tannins and fine line of acid are features.

Batista Estate pinot noir 2012 ($50)

A really impressive pinot noir showing slightly more primary fruit depth than the previous 2011. Lots of sour cherry and slightly earthy forest floor influences. It’s medium to light bodied yet there is so much deep and lingering intensity of fruit. The powdery tannins are so fine yet perfectly supportive. Very long finish with a slightly vanillin character. Lovely wine.
