Bellarmine Wines

Bellarmine Wines

TSince the first vintage in 2004, this elevated limestone soil vineyard has gone from strength to strength, producing highly acclaimed wines across the full range of its varieties. Planted in 2000 by a German couple, the Schumachers, the inclusion of Riesling has been a resounding success. The reds are also showing ripeness and great depth of flavour due to the low cropping levels and the suitability of the site to quality wine grape production.

Bellarmine Half-dry Riesling 2015 ($24)

Opens with a wonderful spicy aroma with a citrus mix of lemon and orange. It is so beautifully compelling and engaging. The palate is slightly sweet, hence the name Half-dry on the label, but that is a spicy crisp acidity that holds it to a narrow focus. Love this style which Bellarmine has been making for a while now.

Bellarmine pinot noir 2014 ($27)

A still very tight and restrained nose with hints of savoury muted sour cherry notes. The palate is quite robust with firmish tannins and a wrap of oak holding it together. The acidity is a feature with a degree of chalkiness. The finish is long and focused. This is a serious statement that will benefit from further ageing.
SCORE 90/100 CELLAR 7 years
