Brown Hill Estate

Brown Hill Estate

This small family-run southern Margaret River producer has gone from strength to strength with a range of exceptional quality and value-for-money wines. The vines are all dry grown and on quite harsh gravelly soils, resulting in small yields. All grapes are handpicked. The reds are put into a high percentage of new American and French oak. Great value and super wines.

Brown Hill Estate Morning Star Dry Light Red 2016 ($19)

This is a very modern style of rosé where the fruit has been handpicked and then fermented and aged in season French oak for 6 months. The result is stunning. The nose of strawberries with a rose petal background is so beautiful. The palate has texture thanks to that oak but it’s light and airy. Just wonderful drinking.

Brown Hill Estate Hannans cabernet sauvignon 2015 ($20)

What great value for money this little cabernet sauvignon is. There is perfume and beautiful fruity notes on the nose. The palate is packed with generous fruit of real intensity and the oak and firmish fine tannins are working well together. And all that for $20.

Brown Hill Estate Chaffers shiraz 2015 ($20)

Beautifully scented bouquet of rose petal and cherry plum with a spicy lift. The palate is seamlessly constructed with fine grainy tannins and neatly weighted oak. Medium-bodied fruit with excellent depth and concentration. So well balanced and posed with good medium-term cellaring potential.

Brown Hill Estate Ivanhoe Reserve cabernet sauvignon 2014 ($35)

A velvety smooth and generous cabernet displaying layer upon layer of deeply concentrated fruit. Blackcurrant and dark chocolate with a cedary lift. The tannin and oak combo works a treat on the palate, holding the fruit gently so it extends effortlessly to the long finish. Will continue to evolve with cellaring.

Brown Hill Estate Great Boulder Signature Range cabernet shiraz merlot malbec 2014 ($40)

This is a blend of 40 per cent each of cabernet and shiraz with 10 per cent of merlot and malbec. It works so well with strong notes of black cherry and peppery dark chocolate on the nose. It’s smooth and layered with concentrated generous fruit which is focused seamlessly to a long finish. Lovely wine.

Brown Hill Estate Perseverance Signature Range cabernet merlot 2014 ($50)

Ripe, rich and delicious. There is a big hit of juicy punchy cabernet and merlot. The plumper merlot adds significantly to the more angular cabernet. It’s neatly wrapped in oak with grainy and slightly chalky tannins holding a line through to the finish. Beautiful perfumes and great weight and mouthfeel.
