Castle Rock Estate

The quality of wines, particularly Riesling, which has been coming from this little producer in the past couple of years justifies the decision by Angelo Diletti to establish his vineyard in the cool Porongurup. Son Rob now makes the wines and believes the site is perfect for white wines that age, be it Riesling or chardonnay. Recent success has been significant. Pinot is very good.

Castle Rock Estate Porongurup Riesling 2016 ($21)

These single vineyard Rieslings from Rob Diletti are so good. Spicy lemon zest on the nose with a little floral note. The palate has a fine delicacy but with intensity and drive. Light bath salts and lemon blossom with a fine acidity. It’s all brought together most beautifully with a precise delivery and excellent mouthfeel.
SCORE 95/100 CELLAR 7 years

Castle Rock Great Southern pinot noir 2015 ($32)

Incredible concentration of cherry, light raspberry and strawberry confectionery characters on the nose with a liberal hit of spices. The palate displays some subtle fruit characters with fine, firm tannins and a dash of oak. An impressive pinot noir with power and intensity, but with poise and elegance. A classy wine from a guy who knows how to make this stuff rather well.
SCORE 93/100 CELLAR 6 years
