Clairault Wines

Clairault Wines

Clairault has been at the forefront of winemaking in the Margaret River region since 1976, when the first 4 hectares of vines were planted. When John Streicker acquired the Clairault property in 2012 he implemented changes to vineyard practices with the resulting wines continuing to excel. The restaurant, nestled amongst beautiful grounds and a stunning vineyard backdrop, was redesigned as a cafe with a contemporary farm-to-table menu.

Clairault Estate chardonnay 2014 ($38)

This is effectively a reserve wine. It comes from old vines on the property that have been shown to produce outstanding fruit. There’s a lot happening in here, with the deep stone fruit characters cut with an edgy lemon and melon nuance. The palate is exquisite. Perfectly fine and long with such a tight control of the fruit flavours. A little vanillin character emerges with a splash of lime. It’s a terrific classy wine.

Clairault cabernet sauvignon 2014 ($27)

This delivers real quality for less than $30. Loaded with blackcurrant and lifted cedar on the nose. The palate delivers a soft and plush texture with real fruit intensity. It’s more medium bodied but there are lots of good things happening in here.
