Evans & Tate

Evans & Tate

It was 1974 when John Evans and John Tate spotted a promising piece of land on the northern bank of the Wilyabrup River. Known for its well-drained gravel soils, Mediterranean climate and maritime location, vines were planted the following year. Since these beginnings the winemaking philosophy of Evans & Tate has focused on maximising fruit quality in the vineyard, along with producing wines which are stylish and refined.

Evans & Tate Metricup Road semillon sauvignon blanc 2015 ($24)

Quintessential Margaret River blend with stacks of tropical grassiness emerging on the nose. The palate is crisp and clean with a persistent long finish. Fits the style perfectly and plenty to like as a drink now wine.

Evans & Tate Classic semillon sauvignon blanc 2015 ($18)

One of the most famous of the Classics and one that continues to deliver plenty of value for money. Fruity with a lemon melon and light herbaceous character throughout. Clean and racy through the palate to a punchy finish.

Evans & Tate Breathing Space cabernet sauvignon 2014 ($19)

First-class value-for-money Margaret River cabernet. Blackcurrant and cedary oak with a trace of black olive leafiness on the nose. Into the palate the strength and power of cabernet is delivered with a degree of poise and finesse. Plenty of sustained flavour to the long finish.

Evans & Tate Metricup Road shiraz 2014 ($24)

Displaying all the dusty savouriness of Margaret River shiraz with a deeper plumpness that gives it body and presence. Excellent tannin control and oak work contribute to a most stylish shiraz of medium weight. Dark chocolate and savoury plum and coffee emerge from a balanced palate.
SCORE 92/100 CELLAR 6 years

Evans & Tate cabernet sauvignon 2013 ($100)

An impressive follow-up to the initial release of this super premium Margaret River cabernet. I love the smooth and almost effortless palate structure with silky fine tannins and such fine grained oak supporting what is clearly impressive and outstanding fruit. A wine of elegance and charm that will continue to evolve.
