Fairbrossen saperavi 2014 ($35)

This uncommon – well uncommon in Australia – variety is native to Georgia. It’s characterised by incredibly deep colour and a fair whack of acid. Yet the palate is soft and surprisingly juicy and supple. This is all wild yeast fermented with no fining or filtering. And that’s after handpicking and basket pressing. High floral notes and ripe raspberry cherry flavours with a hint of vanilla essence and bramble.
SCORE 91/100 CELLAR 5 Years

Fairbrossen Elterwater 2014 ($35)

This comes from Fairbrossen’s Margaret River vineyard. It’s an excellent wine displaying leafy black fruits on the nose and masses of concentrated fruit on the palate. The smooth and almost velvety palate tends to conceal the real power and urgency in this wine. Wild yeast and 18 months in new French oak have contributed to a very promising wine.
SCORE 93/100 CELLAR 15 years
