Hay Shed Hill

Hay Shed Hill

Hay Shed Hill is one of a select group of pioneer vineyards which have helped establish Margaret River as one of the great wine regions of the world by consistently producing world-class wines. This old vine, dry-grown, family-owned and operated vineyard is situated in the premier subregion of Wilyabrup, Margaret River, and specialises in chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon. Winemaker and owner Michael Kerrigan produces wines which reflect the character and essence of this wonderful site.

Hay Shed Hill White Label malbec 2014 ($30)

A beautifully smooth and seamlessly structured wine from this excellent variety. Has a floral fruit influence and nicely applied oak working in with fine chalky tannins. Lovely texture and mouthfeel that complements the excellent persistence and length.
SCORE 93/100 CELLAR 8 Years

Hay Shed Hill cabernet sauvignon 2014 ($28)

A balanced and polished expression of Margaret River cabernet sauvignon. A mix of red and black fruit on the nose with a certain tobacco leaf and dark chocolate subtlety. The palate is the real strength here with its grainy tannin showing a subtle iron filings minerality with blackcurrant dominance and some nice savoury oak. A wine for now or cellaring. Great potential at this price.

Hay Shed Hill Block 1 semillon sauvignon blanc 2015 ($28)

This consistently excellent blended white from some of the oldest vines in Wilyabrup gets just a little oak and it makes all the difference. It’s a lightly framed wine but it still packs a punch. Bright, fresh and lively in the mouth. It is ideal now as an aperitif but with a little age it will develop more complexity on what is already a very complex palate

Hay Shed Hill chardonnay 2015 ($28)

Perfectly crafted chardonnay displaying a beautiful mix of white peach and nectarine on the nose leading into a bright and vital palate of deep fruit penetration and persistence. Has a nice pear and melon grapefruit character with that light stone fruit adding some substance. Ideal wine for the short term.

Hay Shed Hill Block 6 chardonnay 2015 ($40)

Such poise and restraint in this excellent chardonnay from old vines in the heart of Wilyabrup. Beautiful crunchy minerality is evident throughout. The nectarine and grapefruit with a little edge of cereal richness provides a delightful opening on the nose. The light-bodied palate gradually builds towards a precise driving finish.

Hay Shed Hill Block 2 cabernet sauvignon 2013 ($55)

Such a well-managed wine from the excellent fruit through to the astute winemaking to bring out its best. Abundant blackcurrant and chocolaty plummy characters on the nose with a twist of orange rind. The palate is superb with a subtle graphite thread, firm fine tannins and beautiful fine grained oak. A little savouriness and plenty of deep intensity. A wine with plenty in the tank.
