Heydon Estate The Doc petit verdot 2014 ($45)

This is an 85 per cent petit verdot and 15 per cent cabernet blend. Gee, it’s good. Hardly surprising, seeing as this vineyard has been pumping out sensational fruit for years. Love the richness and elegance here with the gravelly tannins and understated oak adding support to the mass of deep dark and highly concentrated fruit.
SCORE 94/100 CELLAR 7 Years

Heydon W.G. Grace cabernet sauvignon 2011 ($75)

Ripe and generous cabernet just starting to show some subtle leathery library book-like characters within the still largely primary fruit. Blackcurrant and tart black olive with a rich chocolaty base make for a sumptuous palate. Loads of sweet fruit with a liqueur-like character adding to its play.
SCORE 92/100 CELLAR 9 years

Heydon Estate W.G. Grace cabernet sauvignon 2010 ($75)

This is starting to show some subtle secondary characters of leather and spice. There’s a mix of blackcurrant and chocolaty leathery characters on the nose that merge into the palate. A little sage and black olive. Deep and generous flavours build in the mouth to a very long finish. Tight grainy tannins and subtle oak.
SCORE 93/100 CELLAR 10 years

Heydon Estate The Sledge shiraz 2013 ($40)

Beautiful, just beautiful. Spicy and slightly savoury notes on the nose blended with ripe plummy fruit with a lick of licorice. The palate is generous and powerful. Balanced and poised with a gravelly loaminess that adds mid-palate complexity. A wine that will evolve with further ageing.
SCORE 95/100 CELLAR 10 years

Heydon Estate The Willow chardonnay 2012 ($55)

Another belter of a chardonnay from this excellent small producer. These wines have shown a great capacity to age and this will be no exception. At this stage the wine displays a bright colour with an enticing aroma of fig and peach splashed with a citrus grapefruit mix. The palate is still rather tight and will benefit from further ageing, which it will handle easily.
SCORE 96/100 CELLAR 5 years
