Higher Plane Wines

Juniper Estate in Wilyabrup purchased the Higher Plane vineyard in 2006 and there has been no deviation from the original commitment to excellence, with additional resources helping Higher Plane realise the potential of this site. At Higher Plane the belief is less is more, with the aim to create wine with delicacy, elegance and complexity.

Higher Plane fiano 2016 ($25)

Best of the West 2017 –
Alternative variety Often wondered why more of this southern Italian variety has not been grown in Australia. It works so well and suits our cuisine. This is lovely with its crisp flavoursome palate showing some nice spices and good fruit intensity. Lingers long in the mouth with a minerally purity. Nice crunch on the finish after a subtle creamy middle palate.

Higher Plane Forest Grove chardonnay 2015 ($25)

A distinctly fruit-driven chardonnay with just a smidgeon of oak from the 9 months in French where some lees influence was obtained. There is a cooler-climate freshness and racy feel here with a crunchy almost juicy acid on the finish. A shorter-term wine and great value for this quality.

Higher Plane Reserve chardonnay 2014 ($38)

As good a white as has been produced from Higher Plane. From the first sniff you get something intriguing, something striking. Mealy and leesy with a subtle stone fruit spiciness. The palate has layered depth and intensity which effortlessly carries to a very long finish. Beautiful.

Higher Plane merlot 2011 ($38)

A mighty fine merlot delivering a lot more than some of the simple fruity styles you tend to get. This has grunt but with that usual merlot suppleness and generosity. The tannins are grainy with a firmness to hold the lines through the palate. The French oak has been expertly handled and the whole thing sings together rather well.

Higher Plane cabernet merlot 2014 ($25)

A most poised and polished little cabernet merlot from this southern vineyard in Margaret River. Has a nice slightly cool mint aroma with leafy red berry notes. The palate is threaded with fine grained chalky tannins while the oak is subtly delivered. Stylish.

Higher Plane cabernet sauvignon 2012 ($50)

Perhaps a slightly more assertive and angular cabernet than some of the previous wines, most likely a product of the vintage. Having said that, it is very good, with a tight core of tannin and oak perfectly complementing and supporting the fruit intensity. Seamless and perfectly integrated, this shows quality fruit and excellent winemaking.
