Madfish sauvignon blanc semillon 2015 ($18)

Such a pure and almost pristine example of this classic blend. Really punches out some intense tropical characters on the nose and the palate with a decent squeeze of lemon to add some zest and life. It’s a very good example of the style with loads of crunchy fruit flavours. Like the new label design which is part of an overhaul of the packaging.

Howard Park Mount Barker Riesling 2015 ($33)

Excellent example of Mount Barker Riesling. Lightly talky and bath salts-like with some distinctive regional spice to lift the complexity. Fine and quite delicate yet with a persistent and very long palate. Like the acid profile which is non-intrusive but still important. Watch this become something special with ageing.

Howard Park chardonnay 2015 ($54)

A blend of Great Southern and Margaret River fruit. The result is a telling combination of elegance and power. Grapefruit and light melon with a lightly toasty mealy character. Deeply intense and very long palate with a fine mineral line giving focus and direction. Excellent mouthfeel.

Howard Park Flint Rock shiraz 2014 ($28)

Becoming one of my favourite WA shiraz. Love the spicy peppery characters and those exotic cherry and savoury earthy plum influences. It’s medium weight with a beautiful elegance and refinement. But it’s got plenty of fruit intensity and drive. An impressive wine that will evolve in the medium term.

Howard Park Abercrombie cabernet sauvignon 2013 ($125)

Another spectacular wine under this prestige label. It’s a blend of 83 per cent Mount Barker and 17 per cent Margaret River cabernet. Loads of dark chocolate with a leafy black olive infusion. Ripe fine tannins and a dusty oak wrap adding to the textural feel in the mouth. Very long and so beautifully balanced. A highly structured wine that will ensure a very long cellaring future as you would expect for a wine of this class.
