Knotting Hill Estate Vineyard

Knotting Hill Estate Vineyard

Knotting Hill is an established vineyard owned and managed by the Gould family with a long history of farming in WA. Brian and Michael (father and son) started with the purchase of the estate in 1997, with the first plantings in 1998. To date there are more than 70,000 vines and 9 varieties of grapes. Visitors enter the cellar door by crossing over a 45m arched footbridge that overlooks a stunning 5.5-hectare lake teeming with birdlife and fish.

Knotting Hill Michael Thomas malbec 2014 ($38)

This is a thoroughly gorgeous example of straight malbec off this excellent vineyard in Margaret River. There’s plenty of punch and grunt in the middle palate but there is a delightful floral lift on the nose and a silky smooth palate. Fine sinewy and slightly chalky tannins. The oak is expertly integrated. Really well made wine.

Knotting Hill Jack Gordon cabernet sauvignon 2013 ($48)

Another excellent cabernet from this excellent producer. Notes of leafy tobacco and black olive with deeper blackcurrant on the nose. Lightly savoury with some nice cedary lifts. The tannins have a degree of assertiveness and the oak is tightly held. A little more time to emerge from its shell will be the ticket.
