Peel Estate Wines

Will Nairn’s aim is to make wines which have a strong identifiable varietal character and rich fruit intensity. In the last few years Peel Wines has reached a new level of finesse. Shiraz and cabernet have been especially impressive, while the wood-matured chenin remains a personal favourite.

Peel Estate Wood Matured chenin blanc 2012 ($25)

Remains one of the quirkiest wines released in WA. And it remains one of my favourites. This is still a very young example of the style because it will easily go for another 10 years. Remarkable depth and richness on the palate with the use of French oak adding significantly to the flavour complexity. It will become lush and loaded with honey and toast as it ages. Great value for a wine of this ageing potential.

Peel Estate Old Vine shiraz 2010 ($45)

These shiraz from Will Nairn are some of the best cellaring wines made in WA. They start life as quite soft and generous wines but then gradually just keep on keeping on. This is another very good wine that shows the influence of soils and climate. The tannins are typically chalky, and the palate medium weight and generous. Perfumed aromatics of violet and lavender. Lovely example of the style.
