2012 The Malleea

“The Malleea” by Majella continues the great Australian tradition of Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz blends.

We use the finest parcels of fruit from our oldest vines, ferment them gently in our modern fermentation cellar, and then finish off the ferment in new French oak hogsheads. After MLF the wine was then aged for another 18 months in these barrels before bottling in imported fine Italian bottles.

The 2012 “The Malleea” is a rich, dark magenta colour with a bright purple hue. Lush mulberry, blackcurrant, blackberry and vanillin oak on the nose. The layered palate is of cassis, plum fruit and spice with undertones of mint. Fine structured tannins and subtle oak enhance the finish.

Truly one of Australia’s great wines!!!

Aging Potential: 20 years plus

“Vivid purple; this long established iconic cabernet shiraz blend has hit the jackpot this vintage, with lush juicy blackcurrant, mulberry and blackberry fruit set in a wreath of ripe tannins and quality oak.” 96/100 James Halliday

“Very rich and still amazingly youthful with bright and intense sweet varietal fruit, fine soft tannins and balancing acidity.” Winestate July / August edition 2016

Majella “The Malleea” 2012

“The Malleea” by Majella continues the great Australian tradition of Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz blends.

“Malleea”, an Aboriginal term meaning “green paddock” is a great descriptor for the green, lush pastures and vineyards of the limestone coast region in the South Eastern portion of South Australia.

First made in 1996, and only produced when growing conditions are perfect for producing premium quality wines. We use the finest parcels of fruit from our oldest vines.

Vintage Conditions

2012 Coonawarra vintage will be remembered, not only as one of the earliest, but also for being amongst the best.

The near ideal weather conditions of below average rainfall and above average temperatures in Coonawarra leading up to harvest were conducive to an early start and excellent quality.
