Ray Jordan review
Ferngrove Black label Frankland River malbec 2015 ($20)
Malbec seems to have found a home in Frankland River. This shows many of the characters of this excellent variety – floral notes, spices and mulberry with even a trace of fennel and licorice. It stacks up mighty well as a varietal. Integrated palate and excellent mouthfeel.
Score: 90/100 Cellar: 5 years
Wine Guide 2016
This variety is best known as a blending component yet when the vintage is good it gets the chance to strut its stuff as this excellent wine does. It’s a wine of great poise and expression with spices and dark chocolate and fruit intensity evident on the nose and palate. Still a little closed now but it will open up with further ageing.
