Allegiance Wines Alumni Clare Valley Riesling 2016

The distinctive regional style of the Clare Valley has made it a benchmark for Australian Riesling for decades.

A vibrant pale straw colour. The bouquet has lifted aromas of freshly squeezed lime juice with hints of orange blossom. The palate is fresh, bright and lively bursting with green apple, citrus and mineral acidity. Great length and a very flavoursome finish.

Allegiance Wines has sourced this premium parcel of Riesling from the Watervale sub region of the Clare Valley. This wine is an excellent example of the outstanding results possible, when an allegiance between growers and winemakers creates their best expression of the varietal and vintage. Cellar potential of 2-4 years.

Clare riesling really is a superb variety. This is an excellent wine showing all the floral notes on the nose with touches of citrus, while the palate delvers a deep and penetrating flavour through to a very long finish. Has some cellaring potential if you wish. Cellar: 7 years

This is a fresh, minerally, zippy Riesling with bright acidity. Youthful style. Has good persistence with a lovely crisp conclusion. Florals and citrus notes on the palate and there is a little flick of a bitter almond character on the finish. A decent example from the region and one which should age impressively. Score: 88/100 Best drinking: should improve over the next decade. Alc: 12%
