Brown Hill Estate Golden Horseshoe chardonnay 2014 ($35)

INTRO

Classy chardonnay from this largely red wine producer south of Margaret River. Crunchy stone fruit and light toasty oak on the nose with a little dab of lemon. The palate displays excellent intensity and fruit concentration presented long and clean through to the persistent finish. A neat lift of peach and lime on the finish completes an impressive wine.

Vineyard Notes
2014 was another excellent vintage for Margaret River. There was minimal summer rain and all varieties ripened fully. Disease and bird pressures were very low.

Production Notes
The Chardonnay grapes (100% Gingin clone) were handpicked over four mornings. After each picking, the grapes were chilled down overnight and whole bunch pressed the following day. The juice was then transferred to a combination of new and one year old french oak barriques to undergo fermentation. Once completed the wine remained in barrel for 9 months with the lees stirred monthly. Late October the Chardonnay was transferred from barrels to tank, protein and cold stabilized, filtered and then bottled early November.
