Capel Vale Whispering Hill shiraz 2014 ($64.95)

Tasting Notes

2014 Single Vineyard Mount Barker Whispering Hill Shiraz

The Single Vineyard wines represent the ultimate expression of varietal fruit flavour and winemaking excellence from Capel Vale.

Appellation: Mount Barker, Western Australia

Varietal/Vineyards: 100% Shiraz

Harvested: March 2014

Alc/Vol: 14.5%

Closure: Stelvin Lux +

Optimal Drinking: A delicious wine to drink young for its primary
fruit charcaters. The wine will gain complexity and
smoothness with cellaring.

Season: A cool moderate summer with consistent flavour
development . The season produced rich flavours
and ripe tannins.

Our thoughts on the wine: This wine displays fleshy berry fruit aromas and flavours complemented by lifted pepper and spice
characters typical of Mount Barker. Subtle and
careful maturation in french oak barriques adds
more layers of interest to the mid palate, followed
by a generous long, soft finish.

Food Ideas: Red game meats, lamb and rich beef dishes.

Accolades: 97/100 – James Halliday Wine Companion
Magazine 2016.

Captures the qualities of the variety and this vineyard with its smooth flavoursome and quite poised delivery and fruit intensity. Savoury spicy notes of dark chocolate, plums and coffee grinds. The palate is generous with gravelly earthy nuances that merges so seamlessly into the richly textured fruit. A cracker.Score: 96/100                                  Cellar: 10 years
