VIGNERON GEORGE HEYDON’S COMMENTS:
Heydon Estate wines are the product of our aged single vineyard estate, located in the prestigious Wilyabrup sub-region in the heart of the Margaret River appellation. The fruit for this wine is 100% Mendoza clone, sourced from our old Chardonnay block.
2011 was a terrific vintage for Chardonnay with warm days and delightfully cool nights. Such is the quality and balance of our old Chardonnay block, encouraging full and complex flavour development while retaining a classical extended acidity and elegance that “The Willow” is renowned for.
The wine displays a magnificent bright golden colour.
A beautiful and gorgeous bouquet of white peach, citrus, melon and cashew is inviting to the nose. Complex aromas of ripe fruit, wet river stone and even hints of gunpowder extend further through the senses.
The palate also displays a profound complexity, intense and with a creamy mouthfeel. A lingering persistence completes an exceptionally elegant expression of quality Margaret River chardonnay.
The finest French oak is flawlessly integrated and balanced, in line with the winery extended bottle aging regime.
The fruit was handpicked on 27th February 2011.
Fruit was then whole bunch pressed and fermented in barrel, with wild, indigenous natural yeast strains. Battonage for 2 months. 10% was allowed to undergo malolactic ferment providing textural complexity. The wine has been matured for 10 months in 100% French oak barrels, 50% new and 50% second use.

Wine Guide 2016
Has emerged as one of the leading chardonnays in the past few years. The extra year in bottle has allowed it to start to develop some gorgeous toasty characters evident on the nose and palate. It’s rich with stone fruit and roasted nuts plus a splash of lemon. Long and deeply flavoursome. CELLAR 4 years
