Houghton Jack Mann Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Another stunning cabernet sourced from the famous Justin Vineyard of Frankland River. There have been some great Jack Manns but I don’t think any has displayed such elegance and poise combined with restrained control as this one. Within there is power and fruit concentration that builds relentlessly through the mid palate to a crashing finish. Will cellar for many years.

Ray Jordan Wine Guide 2016

The grapes were hand-harvested, hand sorted, crushed and then fermented in small open top fermenters. The individual
ferment’s were conducted with indigenous yeast which contributes to the complexity and texture of the wine. Following eighteen months maturation in new and one-year old French oak barriques, the wines were assessed, blended, filtered and bottled. The 2012 vintage of Jack Mann is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon blended with 2% Malbec. The wine is considered to be one of the finest Jack Mann vintages released to date.

Houghton Winemaking Notes

The wine shows a deep purple-red core with a bright, scarlet hue. The youthful and seductive bouquet displays a concentrated amalgam of brightly scented mulberry, cassis, blueberry and dark bramble fruits, with a subtle overlay of vanilla, dried tobacco, wild mint, and chocolate box. The palate is rich, sumptuous and multi layered resulting in a wine with intensity, grace and power. The firm, fine grained tannins are sweet and beautifully integrated with the fruit and oak. Outstanding structure and balance will ensure great ageing potential, and with careful cellaring this wine will continue to develop in complexity over the next twenty years and beyond.
