Houghton Margaret River Chardonnay 2014

INTRO

A most attractive and almost pretty young chardonnay. Highly lifted perfumed aromatics of nectarine and grapefruit with lovely roasted cashew characters. The palate is vibrant and lively with a fresh lingering acidity. Particularly impressive use of oak which adds a creamy richness.

Ray Jordan Wine Guide 2016

For this hallmark regional Chardonnay, grapes were sourced from premium vineyards in the Margaret River region. Gentle processing of fruit preceded cold settling and cool fermentation on oak to ensure vibrancy and freshness is retained. At the completion of fermentation the wine is aged on lees for six months prior to blending to provide further complexity, texture
and palate length.

Houghton Winemaker’s Notes

A brilliant pale straw colour, this intensely aromatic wine exhibits lemon citrus, stone fruit and peach characters. Nuances of toasted cashew nut and subtle chary oak add complexity to the aroma. Flavoursome and mouthfilling, the palate displays lemon citrus and peach with hints of vanilla, spice, and subtle chariness derived from French oak maturation. The palate is well textured with great persistence of flavour. This wine may be enjoyed while fresh and youthful, or may gain complexity if carefully cellared for 2 – 3 years.
