Lenton Brae 2012 Wilyabrup Chardonnay

Lenton Brae has a special affinity with Wilyabrup Chardonnay, celebrating 25 consecutive vintages of growing and vinifying with the release of the 2012 Wilyabrup Chardonnay. This release varies only slightly but significantly from previous years. It comprises about 20% of the ‘Bernard’ clones, originally sourced from Burgundy. Their inclusion brings lifted aromatics with a finer balance and flavour complexity to the palate at a lower alcohol level, complementing the power and texture of the ‘Gin Gin’ clone. The outstanding 2012 provided perfect conditions for chardonnay ripening. The grapes are handpicked, chilled then gently pressed before fermentation in new and used French oak barrels. Vineyard Selection: The fruit is sourced exclusively from Lenton Brae’s vineyard
Fermentation: 30% New and 70% 1 and 2 year old French Oak
Alcohol: 13%
Cellaring: 2020

Ray Jordan

The West Australian Wine Guide 2015

"One of the lighter bodied Chardonnays from Margaret River, yet it is one of the best. There is a slightly wild and funky character on the nose with deep cereal and grapefruit characters. The palate is controlled and finessed with persistent long flavours. The oak is cleverly understated. Excellent wine with medium-term cellaring potential."

James Halliday

Wine Companion 2016

Campbell Mattinson, James Halliday "Elegant power. White peach and grapefruit with oatmeal and sweet/spicy oak. Unfurls slowly in the glass but once it's at full stretch it's impressive. Length texture and fruit power to burn, but mannered at all points along the way."

Mike Bennie

The Winefront 2016

"Wild ferment, no filtration. Geez this is looking good. Finding some suppleness, but that acid line is still the real deal. Chardonnay flavour to the fore yet still finds restraint and slate-like mineral thrust. It's got some serious velocity. Bloody fantastic"
