WINEMAKER COMMENTS
The 2014 Kalgan River Shiraz was machine harvested then destemmed/crushed into fermenters where it was cold soaked to extract and retain desirable varietal flavours and aromas. When actively fermenting post inoculation they were pumped over with aeration twice a day, temperature was held around 25°C to prevent over extraction of tannins locked in the skins. Maceration was not extended due to the same reason. The wine was then transferred in barrel for malolactic fermentation allowing a soft integration of the grape and Oak tannins. The wine
was fined with egg whites then bottled after 18 months barrel maturation.

FOOD PAIRING
Strong flavoured red meat dishes

VINTAGE NOTES
The 2014 growing season was not without its challenges but in the end resulted in both excellent whites and reds. After a relatively mild winter and above average spring rainfall canopies were in excellent condition. Early summer was above averagely warm which resulted in the whites ripening fairly quickly. Just when we thought vintage would be over fairly quickly , March came in cool and wet, which slowed the ripening of the reds allowing for excellent flavour development and soft rip tannins at relatively low sugarwarm which resulted in the whites ripening fairly quickly. Wine Guide 2018

A medium-bodied cooler climate shiraz showing the versatility of this variety. Lifted cherry notes on the nose with earthy overtones. The palate is beautifully constructed with fine tannin and smooth oak. Nice combo of dark chocolate and licorice with subtle plummy spicy tones. SCORE 89/100 CELLAR 5 years
