and the wines are handled by gravity where possible. Fine wines with charm and character.
YARRA VALLEY SINGLE VINEYARD SECTION A8
SYRAH 2014
Region
Yarra Valley
Vineyard
Section A8 Syrah was planted
in 1971. It is a north east facing
vineyard which is ideal for full
and perfumed red wine. The
soil is sedimentary with deposits
of sandstone, mudstone and
limestone through the profile. The
soils are very high in iron which
may explain some of the graphite
characters that we often see in this
wine.
Suggested Cuisine
Grass fed ribeye with celeriac mash
potato.
Vintage Conditions
Warm season with mild weather
in late autumn gave good colour
and tannin development, beautiful
aromas and concentration. 2014 were
some of the lowest yields we have
seen in the last decade.
Winemaking
Fruit was hand harvested and
hand sorted over a sorting table. A
combination of 30% whole bunch,
the balance whole berry. Some foot
plunging at the beginning followed
by turnovers and foot plunging
toward the end of ferment. 18 days
of maceration and fermentation
with wild yeast. Pressed, settled
overnight and filled to barrel via
gravity. Allowed to mature for 12
months at 16-18°C in 500L and
2300L casks. Regular racking to give
some air.
Wine Analysis
Alc/Vol: 14.0%, pH: 3.68, TA: 6.0 g/L
Cellaring
This wine will continue to develop
beautifully over the next 10 years if
stored in a cool dark place.
