Redgate Wines

Redgate is a very strong representative of Margaret River; a small family-owned winery which takes great pride in producing high-quality and value-for-money wine. From surfers to wine experts, the wines have a lot to offer. Recent successes have been impressive, with chardonnay reaching new heights of quality and consistency.

Redgate Reserve sauvignon blanc 2015 ($29)

This excellent oak-matured sauvignon blanc strikes just the right balance between the intensity of the fruit and the beautifully lemony characters of the oak. Has a light tropical fruit character on the palate which is worked cleverly with the oak. Good persistence with the structure and oak and fruit combo to handle a little time in the cellar.

Redgate Reserve chardonnay 2014 ($60)

A delicate and finely balanced chardonnay offering depth of fruit and persistence. Notes of vanilla bean and white peach on the nose with a little lemon essence. The palate is controlled with a fine oak balancing the deep fruit. White peach and nectarine characters provide a level of palate complexity with a subtle struck match finish.

Redgate cabernet franc 2014 ($40)

This little vineyard within Redgate always turns up trumps for this variety. This is one of the best. Highly perfumed aromas of red berry and floral violet. The palate is soft and supple but still with firmish tannins and fine oak integration to give it structure. This is a serious statement of this variety.

Redgate Ullinger cabernet sauvignon 2014 ($65)

One of the best cabernets from this property, which has produced some very good ones over the years. There is power here but it’s delivered with elegance and poise. Perfumed, highly scented aromas. The palate has a leafy tobacco and deep black fruit character with plenty of firm fine tannins and well integrated oak to provide a seamless and refined mouthfeel.

McHenry Hohnen Rocky Road cabernet merlot 2014 ($25)

This is a nice entry point red wine from these guys. It’s fleshy with generous cabernet and merlot and loads of dark fruit characters lurking within. A little touch of oak adds to the mix while the ripe tannins help it through easily to a long finish.

McHenry Hohnen Rolling Stone 2013 ($90)

This is McHenry Hohnen’s super premium development and it has really hit the mark since the first release a couple of years ago. This is another outstanding wine. It is a blend of cabernet sauvignon malbec, merlot and petit verdot. Such a rich and concentrated wine with masses of blackcurrant and fruitcakey plum and black olive characters. Smooth rich texture with a complex weave of tannin and oak. Has a slightly liqueur character which brings further complexity into it. Super wine.
