Smithbrook Wines

Smithbrook Wines

This established operation was bought in 2009 by Peter Fogarty. The focus in the last seven years has been on getting the vineyard back to its natural expression with low yields supported by minimal inputs. This fits in with the overall environmental strategy of management, where vines for Smithbrook are grown without irrigation.

Smithbrook The Yilgarn blanc de blancs 2011 ($35)

Impressive sparkling wine made from chardonnay grown on the Smithbrook property. Has had 36 months on lees, so you are starting to see that interesting biscuit richness, while still retaining its keen fine edge that carries the finish. Palate is developing a beautiful mix of meatiness with some stone fruit yeasty autolysis. It’s very good.
SCORE 93/100 CELLAR 5 years

Smithbrook chardonnay 2012 ($17)

A lighter-bodied and quite fragrant chardonnay from this region. Lightly nutty with a little squeeze of lime. The palate has a lightly creamy texture with a tight minerally crisp acid finish. It’s a subtle wine that’s just filled out a little so well suited to light dishes.
SCORE 89/100 CELLAR 3 years
