Snake + Herring

Snake + Herring

Snake + Herring aims to showcase WA regional styles and single vineyard wines. The wines are very good, with the aim of matching fruit and style, while occasionally pushing boundaries into new areas. Given both Davis and Sweeney’s experience in the WA wine industry, they know where the best fruit is being grown and are able to slice and dice it into their range of wines.

Snake + Herring Corduroy chardonnay 2014 ($38)

Outstanding example of the lighter though still intense and precise chardonnays that come from the southern Karridale region. This is a beauty, showing a tight core of fruit wrapped with some beautiful oak. Spicy with lancing citrus and lightly roasted cashew. Nice texture and rich intensity carry through to the finish.
SCORE 93/100 CELLAR 7 Years

Snake + Herring Redemption shiraz 2013 ($25)

An eminently appealing dark and brooding young shiraz sourced from the Great Southern. Heaps of earthy dark fruit with plummy blackcurrant shiraz richness. Toasty oak and a little of that liqueur dark chocolate character with added mid-palate richness. Plush.
SCORE 89/100 CELLAR 5 Years

Snake + Herring Cannonball cabernet sauvignon + merlot + petit verdot ($38)

Excellent blend of these three Bordeaux varieties. There is a delicious sweet fruit component displaying opulent chocolate and black fruit. The palate though is a feature with its smooth velvety texture. Lovely graceful mouthfeel and palate extension.
SCORE 94/100 CELLAR 12 Years

Snake + Herring Higher Ground cabernet sauvignon + merlot 2014 ($65)

Sourced from the Porongurups, so as you would expect, the cool climes of this part of Mount Barker results in a wine that shows a high degree of elegance. It’s medium bodied but with good fruit intensity. Controlled fine grained tannins and fine oak integration. Has a very lively palate.
SCORE 92/100 CELLAR 10 Years

Snake + Herring Black Betty cabernet sauvignon 2013 ($65)

Powerhouse Margaret River cabernet sauvignon that harnesses all its energies into such a perfectly refined and poised wine of great elegance. Rich chocolaty blackcurrant with a licorice mouthfeel. Builds with layers of flavours, very long finish. Will be exceptional with ageing.
SCORE 95/100 CELLAR 15 Years
