Swan Valley Wines

To the family boutique winery, son Paul has introduced new winemaking philosophies. Trialling natural fermentation using indigenous yeasts, wood ageing and low additive usage. Imported Georgian Qvevri will soon make orange wine available with customary styles.

Swan Valley Wines Sec Tentres chenin blanc 2014 ($17)

This is an interesting take on this variety. It’s been all naturally fermented and about 10 per cent muscadelle has been used. It’s also been fermented in French oak to give it further complexity. Has a nutty savoury palate character that would go well with a range of flavoursome dishes.
SCORE 86/100 CELLAR 4 Years

Swan Valley Wines Heirloom Blend 2014 ($25)

This is a tidy blend of mataro, grenache and shiraz. Has an earthy savoury character on the nose and palate. It’s soft and generously proportioned with lush fruit flavours showing a mix of liqueurs and coffee grinds plus a touch of chocolate.
SCORE 90/100 CELLAR 6 years

Swan Valley Wines syrah 2014 ($25)

An earthy slightly funky syrah sourced from Mount Barker. Generous and soft with lots of spicy peppery notes on the nose and a deep dark and softly textured palate. Chocolate and earthy savoury plum flavours.
SCORE 88/100 CELLAR 5 years
