best drinking summer wine

Evoi cabernet sauvignon 2014 ($32)

Quite beautiful and fragrant cabernet from Margaret River made by Nigel Ludlow. It’s a small producer yet one making some of the consistently finest cabernets in the region. Loads of ripe blackcurrant fruit with leafy bay leaf and black olive nuances. Already complex and velvety smooth.

Score: 95/100    Cellar: 12 years

Evoi Reserve chardonnay 2014 ($55)

A pretty funky chardonnay showing some remarkable intensity and complexity already. It sort of got the works with partial barrel fermentation. lots of solids and lees stirring after whole bunch pressing. Has a savoury cashew and light butterscotch character on the nose. The palate is deep and very intense with a long finish showing a trace of struck match influence.

Score: 94/100     Cellar: 8 years

Evoi The Satyr Reserve 2013 ($55)

Stunning wine that opens with beautiful floral perfumed notes on the nose. The palate shows characters of black currant and subtle black olive. It is a work of art with a complex weave of tannin and oak in support. So beautifully balanced and poised with those chalky tannins holding things perfectly.

Score: 97/100    Cellar: 15 years

EVOI sauvignon blanc semillon 2015 ($23)

Gosh this is a good young SBS. It’s largely tank fermented but a small amount goes into oak for further fermentation. Beautiful aromas of gooseberry and passionfruit with the faintest hint of grassiness. The palate is really intense with a sweet lemony fruit intensity.

Just stunning.

EVOI cabernet sauvignon 2013 ($30)

Exquisite cabernet from one of the best small producers in Margaret River. Leafy red berry with some spices and a touch of cedar. Sumptuous palate with those dusty
tannins and fine grainy oak in excellent support. This is such a high-class cabernet that is a joy to drink from the first sniff through to the last slurp.

EVOI Reserve chardonnay 2013 ($52)

Highly impressive and captivating chardonnay that takes all the best qualities of Margaret River fruit and wraps them up in a modern expression of the style. Rich and textured with a powerful palate that extends to a very long finish. Cashew and grapefruit with deep stone fruit and dried fig influences. It’s creamy but the savoury
edges provide structured balance.
