- Our Place -

Margaret River

Ranked among the world’s most prestigious wine regions, Margaret River is located three hours south of Perth, Western Australia. Margaret River is the most geographically isolated wine region in the world and a major tourist destination, boasting award-winning wineries and restaurants, surf breaks, ancient caves and spectacular scenery.

The Deep Woods Property

Deep Woods Estate is located in the Margaret River sub-region known as the Yallingup Hills. The 32-hectare property is perched high on a ridge overlooking a picturesque, secluded valley surrounded by large jarrah and marri trees. The estate comprises a modern winery, vineyard, cellar door, bottling line and homestead. With its large natural spring, dense woodlands and spectacular views, Deep Woods Estate is one of the region’s most
scenic wineries.

After being acquired by the Fogarty Wine Group in 2005, the vineyard was reworked and a new vineyard maintenance program was introduced, utilising sustainable vineyard practices to improve fruit quality and produce smaller, higher-quality yields. This philosophy has produced outstanding fruit and superior wines—including award-winning Cabernet and Chardonnay—which are processed and bottled in small batches.

Deep Woods chardonnay 2016 ($20)

Very sophisticated chardonnay at this price point. It’s wild yeast fermented and left on lees for six months. Minerally with a subtle citrus and lanolin character. Deeper stone fruit threads through to a tight dry minerally finish. Classy wine.
SCORE 94/100 CELLAR 4 Years

Deep Woods Reserve chardonnay 2016 ($45)

Continues the evolution of Deep Woods to premier chardonnay producer in Margaret River. This is high-class stuff that gets the whole kid gloves treatment from winemaker Julian Langworthy. Whole bunch pressing after hand-picking, a mix of new and used French oak and lees stirring. It all creates texture and layered complexity. Such an elegant and persuasive chardonnay that captures the new expression of the region.
SCORE 97/100 CELLAR 7 years

Deep Woods Ivory semillon sauvignon blanc 2017 ($15)

This is always a wonderful expressive value-for-money blended white. It’s so punchy with passionfruit and tropical notes with a decent splash of citrus. Tangy and lively in the mouth.
SCORE 90/100 CELLAR 2 years

Deep Woods Harmony rosé 2017 ($15)

The rosés from Deep Woods are always damn fine little numbers. This is from shiraz and tempranillo, both varieties ideally suited to this style. The dry savoury character that balances the subtle sweet fruit sensation is terrific. Finishes beautifully dry and clean.
SCORE 92/100 CELLAR 3 years

Deep Woods Ebony cabernet shiraz 2015 ($15)

Consistent value-for-money red made from the classic Aussie mix of cabernet and shiraz. It’s medium bodied with good fruit intensity and structure. Dusty, lightly applied oak and fine sinewy tannins add support. Can’t go wrong with this little number.
SCORE 90/100 CELLAR X years

Deep Woods cabernet sauvignon merlot 2015 ($35)

A very pretty and precise blend displaying vibrant energised fruit character. There’s perfumed notes of red fruits and violets with a trace of fruit cake richness. The palate is beautifully fruit driven with the neat infusion of oak worked perfectly. Second tasting was significantly better.
SCORE 95/100 CELLAR 6 years
