About Frazer Woods Wines

Frazer Woods is a small family-owned vineyard in the heart of the world-renowned Willyabrup district of the Margaret River wine region.

In recent years, Frazer Woods has begun to focus on the production of a range of quality sparkling wines.

This has been aided by the input and influence of the legendary Harold Osborne, who has been involved in producing traditionally made sparkling wines in California for decades and was also responsible for the development and refinement of the Pelorus wines made at Cloudy Bay in New Zealand.

John Frazer and Harold embarked on the project of setting up a specialized facility for the traditional production of “methode Champenoise” (as they make it in the Champagne region of France).

John now runs the oldest facility of its type in WA, looking after the sparkling wine requirements of a number of well-known wineries.

Frazer Woods has produced a variety of sparkling wines, including the elegantly refined Frazer Woods Wines Pinot Chardonnay and the rich and complex LaCache Sparkling Shiraz.

All of the wines are made using traditional methods to produce wines of class and complexity that fit in with today’s Australian lifestyle, food and drinking habits.

RAY JORDAN writes in WINE GUIDE 2017

This is one of the more interesting little wineries in the Margaret River region that set out making only shiraz, but more recently diversified to include
sparkling wines. Now the estate is producing a pinot chardonnay, a medium oaked and fruity sparkling Shiraz and a sparkling syrah blanc – a pale rosé coloured wine made from shiraz off the property.

La Cache rosé 2011 ($32)

Seriously impressive rosé-style sparkling wine sourced from Margaret River pinot noir and chardonnay. The slightly ripe fruit characters have helped bring a deep and lasting intensity into this wine. The five years of bottle ageing has added further complexity with its toasty savoury influences. Creamy persistent palate.
SCORE 93/100 CELLAR 7 Years

La Cache sparkling shiraz 2008 ($32)

This is a cracking good sparkling shiraz. The time it ages in the bottle is so important to the style. Dare I say it, this could go on for many years yet. Has a spicy liqueur chocolate and dark plum character that dominates on the nose and palate. There’s a little fruit sweetness in there. This is a wine that would benefit from extended cellaring. The gas helps the ageing process
