About Tomasi Wines

Tomasi wine is a premium wine producer totally owned and managed by the Tomasi Family. It is situated in the Karridale sub region of the Margaret River Wine region. We are the most South Eastern vineyard in the Margaret River appellation.

The estate was purchased in 1995. Initial plantings were undertaken in 1999. Further plantings have taken place in 2000, 2001 and 2008. Plantings now total 6 hectares. Wine production started in 2002. The estate winery was completed for the 2006 vintage. Our estate facility is designed and equipped to optimise the quality from our vineyard. All of the wines are bottled and cellar at estate.

All our fruit is machine harvested. This is a great advantage as harvesting can be done at night when the ambient temperatures are at their lowest. By immediately processing our fruit, we avoid loss of quality.

Winery overlooks rows of Sauvignon Blanc which produces high quailty wine been most awarded.

Winery has cellar of the old world style with room full of barrel awaiting maturing.


Frank Tomasi

Frank Tomasi was born at his Grandfather Pietro’s vineyard and general crops farm in the renowned town of Montecchio in Veneto Italy. Montecchio was Romero’s family name.

The hills around the 2 Castles are even today surrounded by vineyards.

It was in this atmosphere that Frank grow up in with his family and relatives on the land.

His father Guerrino continued the family tradition when he migrated to Australia in the early 50′ s. They settled in Wollongong 80km south of Sydney and on an acre lot Guerrino planted vines which grew vigorously. It is now with close relatives.

All his uncles in Italy were involved in Vineyard and Winemaking, so growing up in those surrounding he could not escape learning and enjoying the industry.

Frank purchased land in Karridale area in mid-90′ s and from there grew a desire to be in a vineyard again. Frank enjoys been the “tour guide” and also seeing his black angus in the surrounding vineyard.

Frank Kittler

Frank Kittler is the Winemaker/Manager of the estate. He comes from a farming background with Science degrees in Physics and Mathematics. He has done 22 vintages in Margaret River as well as 10 in the USA.

Frank moved to Margaret River in 1986 and had his first vintage experience at Cullen Wines. Over the next few years he worked at Pierro and at Redgate Wines, and moved to help Serventy Wines establish their organic wines in 1991. He also started his own Pave brand, which was discontinued in 1998.

Trying to source good quality grapes consistently proved too hard. During this time Frank did several vintages in California with the ABC group. This is a group of enthusiasts lead by Jim Clendenen and Bob Linquist in Santa Barbara who make wines using traditional European techniques. Their labels include, Au Bon Climat, Qupe, Vita Nova, Cold Heaven and Ici/La-Bas and Il Podere Del Olivos.

Initially their focus was Burgundian and Rhone varietals, but they soon branched out to Italian, Spanish and Bordeaux styles. This experience has provided Frank with a very broad understanding of wine styles and possibilities.

Frank went to work at Happs in 1994. During the next 6 years, Happs started the Karridale vineyard in the Southern area of the Margaret River wine region. A huge range of alternative varieties have been trialled here and the knowledge gained has been made available to all potential growers. As Happs got larger, Frank was looking for more challenges, and in 2001 he took on a job with Vasse River wines. Over the next 5 years, the styles were vitalised, a new winery built and a contract wine making business born. In 2006 Frank moved to Oceans Estate when the new winery was built.

David  Tomasi

David as a young boy in Wollongong remembers the vines that Guerrino and Frank worked in. He enjoys his Italian family vineyard and wines when visiting Italy. David joined in while the vineyard was been prepared from ground up after many years in the electrical field.

Over the years, he has seen the vines bloom along with the building of winery.

David coordinates the operations of the business and he enjoys delivery wines to Perth in his little truck. Always keen to try new varieties and has two Franks to deal with.

Tomasi Wines is owned and managed by the Tomasi family in the Karridale subregion. The fruit is all estate grown. Cooler temperature consistently gives excellent quality. Has achieved good local and national show success.

Lashings sauvignon blanc 2016 ($16)

A precise and crisp fruity sauvignon blanc. Gooseberry and tropical fruits with a splash of lemon. The acid is crisp and sustains the palate to a clean pure and long finish. Nice current drinking wine.

Tomasi sparkling pinot noir ($25)

A tidy little sparkling pink wine. The aromas have a strong meaty and gamey character which is coming from the pinot and perhaps some base wine and ageing. Intense and fruit-driven palate with a lively intensity. The palate is fairly simple, but there is persistent flavour.

Lashings pinot noir 2015 ($16)

Opens with a sweet and sour aroma with a mix of raspberry and cherry notes being attractive. The palate is medium to light bodied with a spicy fruitiness. Slightly gamey with a little fine-grain oak to complement. Well structured with a palate that is smooth and balanced.
